Blog Post #4
I have been using twitter since I was in middle school. I mostly use it for staying in touch with my friends and seeing whats going on in their lives. I find it extremely beneficial because I know whats going on in my friends lives and I also can see whats happening with celebrities and it shows the news. Twitter can be helpful in my career because I could contact parents and also learn new teaching strategies and show different types of media from Twitter.
The digital divide can affect our students in many ways. One way it can affect the students is by making a huge knowledge gap between the kids who have access to technology outside of school and the kids who don’t. Some causes of the digital divide are not having the necessary funds to be able to afford a computer at home or family values. I think that I will experience this a lot as a teacher because I will be starting off at a school with a very diverse group of kids. One way I can help the digital divide is not giving homework that requires a computer or giving kids opportunities to learn more about technology if they are behind.
One kind of academic software that I have used a lot is Quizlet. I could use Quizlet in my class to quiz the students on vocabulary words and other concepts. Another kind of academic software that I would use a lot in my classroom would be Kahoot. I could use it to test the kids in a fun way.
Awesome post! I think its very important how you stated how the digital divide can affect students in a series of ways rather than simply hindering their potential for success. I also think it was interesting that some students do not have computers due to cultural factors which is a concept I never really thought of!
